Hi,
Would like to put an electric start on a 1974 25hp Johnson Model 25R74M. I have everything I need from a different motor except the starter itself . Could someone tell me the correct starter for this motor and whether I need a bracket to mount or does it mount on one of the brackets that are already there?
Thanks,
Mike

You said you had everything but the starter... You need a solenoid, starter button, wires, starter, geared flywheel, and starter bracket. Are you making it a tiller e-start or a keyed e-start with controls?
Sorry I can't be more helpful, not sure what you have or what you want.

Correct, I have everything except the starter itself and the bracket, off of a previous motor. It will be a keyed e-start with controls. I guess some part #'s would help, if that's possible.
Thanks,
Mike

Hey Mike,
If you get on crowleymarine.com and click on parts catalogs, then johnson, year, then model, it will give you some parts diagrams and part #'s. I'll try to get on it and give you a link. Boy those parts are high if you buy them new. I'd try laingsoutboards.com and call him--a nice guy and very knowledgeable, or twincity outboards (I've never used them).

Sounds good. That's what I needed, to be pointed in the right direction.
Thanks,

Just wondering. Do these starter kits come with instructions. Been thinking of adding electric start to my 1980 35 hp. Has been a good motor, it's held up better than I have these last 30 years. I think I could work it out myself but I wouldn't want to run into any surprises.

Don,
I don't know if there are any "suprises" these guys can't handle for you. Get yourself a kit and someone on iboats can definitely tell you how to hook it up! It's not hard--even I can do it....with a little help from certain folks. Seems like in a lot of cases the instructions given from the experts here are better than the instructions you get with a lot of parts.
