Starter noise and play between terth

I have a 96 Evinrude 70 hp and when I go to start it over, it turns over no shine, but it makes an intermittent grinding noise every few seconds until you disengage the starter. It also looks like the teeth on the fly wheel or severely worn down?

Common problem.---Started with 92 models I think.-----Motor generally stops in the same 3 places.-----Shame on them to change to a one piece cast iron one to save money in the factory.------Flywheel is no longer available and was big beer tokens when last available.------Have sold a few myself.------Look on E-bay for a replacement.

one today. Should I order a new starter too or just use the same one?

I often say it -------These starters are easy to take apart and inspect.-----Take an ohm reading on the armature.-----Maybe replace the drive if it is a factory quality starter.

As clearly stated I have seen that before !!------Many folks will have that issue.-----Make sure you get a good replacement.-----Your location ?
