I have the above mentioned engines. On one the starter drags...
By drags I mean the bendix doesn't seem to disengage the flywheel if the engine doesn't start immediately. On the next cranck you wont hear the bendix click as it engages the flywheel. It also seems to disengage prematurely when starting. If the engine fires but doesn't start the bendix will disengage and you will hare the starter spin freely. I pulled the starter motor and found only a gear where the bendix would usually be the gear looked fine with little wear.
I looked up the parts online and found Part # 0434517 - (SHAFT ASSY., Pinion) the engine is a 1995 Model J150EXEOM and I have a factory manual. This is a ~$100.00 part.
Do I have to pull the flywheel to repair this and is it a real pain?
I'm afraid one day she'll only spin and wont start. Am I better off having this repair done in a shop? I've replaced impellers and re-built the carbs and reeds already... that wasn't too bad.
Thanks experts!!
