starter solenoid

so i have a 485 merc str 4 cyl and it has a solenoid on the block and one jumped out on the starter can i abandon the one on the block and simply use the one on the starter...the one on the block has a striped stud

may tear up the ign switch from the current, just replace the slave solenoid

yeah i have been reading up on the slave solenoid and found this question to be asked many times, so i guess ill just buy a slave, a new starter, and all new cables. bust out another thousand LOL
