I have a Chrysler 102 hc and finally got it running BUT the starter spindel cracked and I ordered one. I have it all apart but when I install it do I need to wind up the spring or just install everything. It didn't seem to be under and pressure when I took it off. Just trying to be ready when the part arrives. Thanks for your help

Re: Starter spindel

You need to install everything except the pinion pin and rewind the rope all the way in. Now, thread into the top hole about --5 threads a long 10-24 bolt or whatever it is--, preferably allen head and lock it tight to the spindle with a nut. Use an allen wrench (L shaped hex wrench) to rewind the spring to the point where it will pull in the handle firmly yet allow full rope pull. Slip into the pinion and spindle the pin and lock it down with the original 10-24 screw.

Re: Starter spindel

Thanks for the instructions, that seems easy enough, but one more quick one, I assume I just run the rope thru the spindel and make a knot like you do on a mower. Will go to lowes and get the screw and nut and wait for my part to arrive.
Thanks again
