I have a 1989 200 Yamaha 25" shaft. On my latest trip of one week it developed starting problems. Sometimes while starting the voltage on the Voltage Meter @ the helm will drop to zero and I get a "click" from the engine, other than that nothing. Other times it starts immediatly, and still others the starter engages but only turns the engine approx 1/2 revolution. The last time used it would not start at all and I hand cranked it with a pull cord. Once started it ran great for remainder of trip, did not try to restart upon shut down.
After getting the zero volts problem I tried the following "fixes". The parallel switch had no effect. I exchanged selenoids with the other engine and that did not help. Also changed batterie with other side to no avail.
The boat is located in the Bahamas so local service is problematic at best. Any suggestions? Brett

Re: Starter

Sounds to me like a shorted winding in the armature, Brett.

Get it checked out at a starter shop. A rebuild costs about 25% of a new starter.

Good luck. :)
