Recently I was stranded at a lake as starter would turn over but would just make a grinding noise! When I inspected the starter the top bushing, washer, and nut where missing and spiral shaft stuck upward just next to flywheel teeth!any idea why this occurred?I am assuming I need to by a new starter as I doubt you can only get hardware that spun loose!Any ideas of why it got stuck up and how can I get it to back down?Any info provided we'll be of great help, thanks for your time

Common failure on rebuilt starters.....nut not properly torqued.....just tap it down and get a replacement or Try a local repair shop. They may have an old core you can rob parts from

Is it not in the factory manual, or do you not have one? Most manuals explain in full detail teardown and rebuild of the starter motor.
