Starting a motor that has sat for two years

I bought my first boat and it has a 89 Force 50 hp motor. What steps should I take prior to trying to start the motor? Thanks.

There are a few questions that need to be answered.

How was the boat stored? inside? outside?

Have you tried to move the prop and gears by hand?

Did you leave gas in the tank? (depending on how your tanks are setup, Internal?, external?)

But usually, with a boat stored inside away from any heavy moisture, and some clean fuel and a good healthy charge on your battery motors tend to start up just like you left them.

If you want to be safe pull the plugs and shoot some oil in the cylinders. Then turn the flywheel by hand to distribute the oil. The type of oil isn't all that critical. You just want to make sure you have some lube in the cylinders before cranking the engine. Reinstall the plugs and then try starting with fresh fuel.
