To all the experts... I need your help!! Just spent 4 wonderful hours with my newly aquired trolling motor, but it's not on the boat yet! The serial # is 5402B-E10103. Anybody know what Evinrude it is? I had to disassemble the carb cause it was full of junk and the float wouldn't shut off. Now it holds fuel in the float just fine but I can't get any where it belongs. As long as you force feed it with a spray bottle it runs fine. The carb has been completely disassembled and cleaned however has no fuel flow. I appreciate any help.
Also it will need a prop. Can any one tell me where to purchase one?
video@telenet.net

I'm confused with : "but I can't get any where it belongs" What does that mean?

Have you checked your fuel pump?

It's a 1964 5.5hp Evinrude. You're probably gonna need a shop manual for it and you can get it here on iboats. Just click on the "Repair Manuals" tab at the bottom of the page. Your local prop shop oughta be able to help you with a prop.

c/6

Hooty

Hey, Molly.

If you have to force feed it to get it to run you have fuel problems.

The most likely candidate is a missed clog in the carb jets.

Have you tested the fuel pump? Check also the tank vent, tank pickup, antisiphon valve for restrictions.

Check fuel hose and primer bulb for restrictions or air leaks.

Good luck. :)

First of all, are you getting fuel to the carb? You need to find that out. If you are check the jets in the carb. If your not, check the fuel pump, 1. Disconnect the spark plug wires so it don't try to start...... 2. connect the fuel line to the tank and the motor 3. pump the bulb til it's solid 4. remove the fuel line fron the carb and pull the starting cord and observe if it's pumping fuel in a pulsating flow. If it is the pump is OK. If it's not, replace the pump.
I did have a simalar problem, but my fuel hose was 9 ft. long and it was too much for the pump to move the fuel. So I shortened it to 4 ft. and was fine. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help so far! I do believe I have good gas flow as the float bowl has been full at disassembly. I will check the flow from the pump anyway. It is possible the carb is not totally clean. If all else checks out I will clean it again.
