The starter bushings need a drop of oil. You may be able to do the top one without any dis-assembly. But you have to take it apart to get at the lower one. Good news is the top one is probably the noise culprit.

To me, the prop is fine.

Re: stater screams and sqeeles

FR is correct, the noise is due to the starter armature shaft having too much clearance in either one of the two caps. (top or bottom) Likely your starter is fixable. It actually is the shaft "rattling" around during rotation. Take the starter apart and check both. If you apply some white teflon grease to each cap and the sound comes back you will need to look at replacing one or both of the caps. Once they get oversize with age, they are junk. While you are in there, consider replacing the brushes.

Don't blame the starter yet. As mentioned, put a drop of oil on the bendix shaft. Do so by "walking" the pinion gear up with your fingers.

Also, your symptoms sounds exactly like a bad ground. VERY common on those engines.

Disconnect the battery. Remove the negative battery lead from the engine block and clean thoroughly.

I've fixed dozens of those V-4 starting issues by simply cleaning that connection. It's worth a try and costs $0.
