Re: stator A34 or A35 ?

They are interchangeably in the CDI manual but not the Mercury manual, which mean that either the wires are a different length or the lamination is a different thickness as mercury built 1/2 and 5/8" lamentations. CDI builds 1 stator with the longer wires and a 1/2" lamination that will work on either engine. I have do not have a mercury price manual the goes beyond the A34. May be someone else can help you or you can call a Mercury dealer.

A 1989 motor should have the 40 amp stator and these stator #'s you listed will not work.........

We'll need your engine serial number to know for sure what engine you have.

The 89 should be a 40 amp.
174-9610K2: Stator

The 87 should be a 16 amp. 174-5456-16: Stator

The two numbers above (398-5454A34, 398-5454A35) coincide with the 16 amp.

Your other thread on this subject brought me here to see what kind of engine you have.;)
