Stator alignment?

So I put a new trigger and stator on my 125 horse 1988 Force outboard. The stator came from CDI, and the trigger came from standard magneto. I think I must have installed one or the other wrong, because I can’t get the timing sufficiently advanced, even with the adjustment maximized. The number one cylinder fires about 10° past the timing mark. How do I know how to line up the stator? I failed to notice how it was oriented when I took it off, and I didn’t see any orientation marks when I installed it. The only thing I saw was a little notch on the inner circumference. (That notch is in between 10 and 11 o’clock in the photo.) I installed it with the notch pointed dead ahead towards the bow. I don’t think that’s where it belongs.

I do have a manual. Just noticed it says "Be sure the stator is positioned so that the ignition charge coils (A) are on the CD unit side of the motor." Which coils are those, the copper colored ones or the one wrapped in white plastic? My manual has a black and white photo of the OEM stator, not a CDI stator, so I can't tell..

The stator actually do not have anything to do with the timing.
Yes it charge the capacitors in the CD modules, that is all.

The windings with yellow or green/yellow leads are for the charging of the battery.
It should be at the opposite side of the CD modules/ignition coil plate.

Check that the trigger is in right place, the triggers is trigging the CD modules to dump the voltage in the capacitors to the ignition coils.
By rotate the trigger it advance the timing at higher RPM.

What do you mean with timing mark.
The flywheel have 4 marks, 0dgr TDC, 28dgr BTDC, 30dgr BTDC and 32dgr BTDC.
You set the timing at 28dgr BTDC at cranking speed (static) at WOT or 30dgr at running WOT.

I mean when I put the timing light on it, the marks are way past the indicator. Instead of firing at 30 degrees Before Top Dead Center, it’s firing at about 10 degrees After Top Dead Center. Even after I have adjusted the timing linkage to advance it as much as possible.

The stator and trigger usually won't fit but one way as the wires only seem to fit one way.

How are you checking the timing?
The throttle all the way advanced?
Check the top 4 posts for the static timing procedures.

Well, dang, after checking the sticky topics, I realized I forgot to set the throttle to WOT. Corrected that, and now static timing is right on. Glad I checked here before I commenced to yankin' off that flywheel again. I also found that I had left too much slack in the wires going from the stator to the rectifier, and one of them was rubbing against the bottom of the flywheel. Once it rubbed through the insulation, it started shorting out intermittently. I think that was the problem all along!
