Does anyone know how many poles are on the stator of a 1985 40hp Mariner (40EL , Japanese/Yamaha).

Thanks,

Re: stator poles

Thanks. That narrows it down.

Mariner 40 hp ? 40EL 6E9 416130

I actually ordered a manual that was supposed to cover my engine, 2 cyl 40hp. When I got it, it only covered 4 cyl 40 hp, it did not include my engine. The wiring was not even close.

Re: stator poles

It has no poles as it has a lighting coil, not a stator.

Faztbullet, can you explain. It is an electric start engine and the battery is being recharged. There is a rectifier. What are you calling a lighting coil vs. a stator.

According to Teleflex it has 12 poles. I'm not sure what Faztbullet is refering to but then I'm not a Force man either.

Re: stator poles

OK Faztbullet, thanks for the schematic.

The lighting coil is still producing AC, it is just an abreviated alternator. This is still my pickup for the unrectified signal for the tach. That is a big help.

Now , does anyone know how many magnets are in the flywheel? That is going to determine the pulse count setting. I bought a Seloc manual, but it doesn't say how many .

We are gettting close. Thanks in advance for any help.
