Ok, had the boat on the water today. Ran great . I charged the battery last night it was showing 12.6 not running . Idling showed no difference in charge. I forgot to test at speed, but i used the radio and used a 12v blower to blow up a tube and some floats. Started it many times throughout the day too. At the of the day the battery actually showed 12.7 not running. The one odd thing is the tach wasn't working properly before i replaced stator. It would go full redline as soon as you give it any rpm now it does nothing. I know i need to test at speed and I know that it doesn't charge fast but can i test the regulator? The old setup did charge at speed but it was high, like 13-14v seemed high. What do you all think?

may be wrong, but think you have an unregulated system. 13-14v would be about right. Did you reverse polarity briefly in working on the motor?

No, i was very careful not to do that. I thought the 74 engine had a separate regulator. Not sure. Going to see if i canfind out.

Ok, found that my motor is one of few with an external regulator .any way to test it? I am going to test the new rectifier too. What should i see between yellow and red wires? Can i test it hooked up and running? Should the red wire be outputting voltage when running? Thanks for all the help.

There was at one time a stator upgrade kit from the factory.---And it did come with a regulator.
