Steering adjustment question.

I have always used Tiller motors and am considering changing one of my boats over to a center console with wheel. I have gone to my local dealer to test out consoles only to find it took about 3 full revolutions of the steering wheel just to get the motor to swivel fully left or right. This is simply too unresponsive for my boat and was wondering is there a way to adjust the response of the steering wheel to say about 1 full turn=max swivel of outboard. Also, if this is possible how difficult is it to adjust? I don't know if it helps or not, but all the consoles I looked at had Teleflex steering. Thanks.

Re: Steering adjustment question.

the fewest turn lock to lock is 3 turns, this is for safety reasons, keep from throwing someone out or capsizing the boat.

So there is no possible way to alter this?

Re: Steering adjustment question.

You would also have a tough time turning the wheel at speed with that quick a steering box. Believe me, unless you have power steering, engine torque steer would twist the wheel out of your hand you would have passengers overboard. It is the way it is for a reason. You can get away with quick steering on a tiller because of the very long lever. Ever notice that some tiller steer boats have a slightly lower max HP rating than helm steered boats of the same hull design? There is a reason.
