Hello,

I just put a 78 115hp jonhson on my 94 starcraft. The steering arm when tilted interferes with the engine mount and will not allow it to go up higher then it should. The tongue runs into the pipe, as you can see in the picture. What would be the best way to remedy this? Thank you for your input!

Are those the proper transom clamps for that engine?

Re: Steering arm interfering with engine mount

I have had three different motors on this boat. The transom bracket has always stayed on the boat, and I have been able to use a mercury tilt trim with each of the motors. Everything lines up great, except the tongue which you can see is hitting the mount pipe when the engine is tilted. Any ideas?

Correction, it is not hitting the engine mount. It is hitting the arm that controls the steering. Can I mount that lower to avoid the interference?

You may want to get the correct OMC mounting bracket for the mtr. There's also a safety factor involved.
