Steering cable replacement

I have a 1989 Ranger bass boat with a 150 yamaha that has twin steering cables. The outer cable (not the one through the tilt tube) has frozen and i simply disconnected it at the motor. One cable seems to do OK, but i am going to replace the other cable. My question is How? A replacement cable is relatively inexpensive but my service manual for the motor has nothing on steering. Do i have to pull the whole rotary system out of the dash (wheel, helm etc)? Any help/assistance would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Steering cable replacement

depends, as yamaha had nothing to do with the steering it wont be covered in any yamaha manual.
most rotary systems had a nut or spring clip locking the cable to the helm. the morse command system was a bother.
ya gotta identify the helm before making any assumptions.
