I just bought a 1970 Aristocraft with a 120 mercruiser. the steering cable is broken. it is made by MarMac products, part # c-2000-A and length is 18 ft. the cable and liner seem to be one assembly. can anyone tell me where and how to fix this as cheap as possible? thanks in advance.

I'm afraid Bond-o is right, you will probably have to replace the whole system, I doubt you are going to find a replacement cable for a 40 year old boat, I have never heard of MarMac.

Poke around on Ebay and see what you can come up with, may be able to find a rack & pinion set up for cheap.

Have you searched for this MarMac?

Re: steering cable

Congratulations on your boat,

I too have a broken steering cable (2A Marmac 9FT) and I was wondering if you learned anything about the company, replacement cables etc. There doesn't seem to be much information out there.

Thanks,
Paul

Re: steering cable

Wish you luck in finding a replacement cable. I had to replace a 1970 Steermaster rotary system cable last summer and ended up having to replace the whole system. The helm was still good but the cable had seized. Unfortunately none of the current cable types were compatible with the old helm style.

No luck finding a replacement cable. MarMac seems to be still manufacturing wire rope but no steering cables. The complete steering systems turned out to be cheaper than what I figured the cable alone would cost. thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
