Re: Steering Conversion

Completely possible! I did it on my Nassau - see avatar.

You will need a new steering column to go with you steeling wheel, the teleflex cable and the arms that attach the cable to the motor.

Try Ebay or you will pay big bucks for all that stuff!

Also 0- interestingly - the Teleflex wasn't that much "tighter" thatn the old cables....but it was a cleaner look.

Re: Steering Conversion

I echo exactly what starcraft65 said. I did the conversion on my '66 Jupiter. I found my new rack system to be smoother but still a bit sloppy. Perhaps the rotary system is better.

I just noticed your motor does not have a tilt tube (steering tube). So you will need to add an adapter. Not sure where you get those......

Re: Steering Conversion

Ditto to what everybody else said about this steering system conversion. BTDT on my 1970 Glastron V-153. The link below is to Teleflex's installation instructions for their kit so you can read and see what is involved. Uflex sells one also, for less money. As mentioned previously, you need a "connection kit" to link the steering telescopic ram to the motor. Send me a Private Message with your email address and I will reply with a copy attached of what Teleflex still sells for older J&E motors under 40HP. While this does not fit your motor, it will let you see how it attaches. Sorry, but I don't know the p/n for larger motors. However, I recently contacted Teleflex Customer Service by email with a question and they responded very quickly. Good luck!

EDIT: I think we are talking about a West Bend/Chrysler/Sea King motor.
