quick question, on the SX-M type drives, for the steering actuator, do the two hoses attaching to the actuator have o'rings or are they compression fittings?

Thanks

That mentioned of the hose ends, the fittings that go into the actuator have O-rings,

May as well mention some VP actuators might be re-buildable of the seals, etc. if they are leaking in certain areas of your design actuator.

SAE inverted flare on one end. Metric o-ring fitting on the other

any hydraulic hose shop can make hoses.

All, thanks for the replies, it was the rings that go between the actuator body and the fitting that confused me, for some reason I was remembering them on the hose side. Compression fitting, no oring, got it, thanks.

As for the leaking actuator, yeah, the last new one I had installed lasted a little over a year, maybe 50 hours… might have to treat them as a yearly rebuild…

The used ones I got to rebuild ahead of time have a lot of wear and scratches on the larger dia that the shuttle runs on… so the chance of leaking there is also high…

They shouid last longer than that! I would only use a non pitted cylinder that’s probably the cause of leaks. I installed a used old style OMC/Merc unit 4 years ago and no leaks. These are different though than the later style used by OMC/Volvo & Merc. The control valves can be rebuilt but the cylinders can’t be AFAIK. The old Bendix style units use a control valve similar to the ones used on classic cars like Corvettes from 63-83 and all the unibody Fords from the 60s—70s…
