Steering is froze...

1999 Yamaha 50 4 stroke..

I disconnected the steering cable from the motor.The steering wheel moves free..but the steering yoke is rusted to the transom mount...(i think im saying that right)....so bad my motor cant turn, Ive tried blaster now for 4 days.hit it with a wood block,, it froze... it wont come loose...Im worried about how much this is going to cost to fix....Im in the Clearwater Florida area..


I appreciate any any positive feedback, ideas.. or advice..

Was the steering tube lubricated in the fall? When was the last time the cable was pulled out of the tube completely?

If not lubed yearly, she is going to be really stuck.

Try -

Reconnect steering cable to the motor.

Tilt full up and full down 6-8 times. The slight twisting action can sometimes break the rod free.

If no joy, remove the bolts on both sides of the tube and spray PB Blaster on both sides. Let sit a day, respray, let it sit. Retry tilting method.

If still stuck, you will need to whack the port side with a block of wood, if no joy, heat the tube till the PB starts to sizzle with a propane torch and whack it.

are you saying you dissconected the steering link between the tiller arm on the engine and the steering cable and the engine still wont pivot left and right?
if I understand what your saying you have removed the steering drag link from the end of the steering cable?

I have taken it to a marine mechanic to be repaired..... he said he thinks he can heat it up and get it free..he showed me ..its been heated already been done once before.....let hope it works...
