Steering problem w/ 1977sea ray omc

I have a 1977 SeaRay with 190hp omc. The problem I'm having is the connection from the top of the outdrive to the arm the comes thru the transom. According to my mechanic the connection is one he hasn't seen in his 20+ years. The problem is the plate located on top of the outdrive is bending and the bolts are working loss. We can not find any diagrams on what the correct connection should be. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
