steering question

hi, boat is 1980 marlin with 898.. steering cable is stuck. should i try to free it up or just replace it? i was wondering is there a kit to rebuild the steering ram? it seems ok but would rebuild it if it were an option. is the power steering pump an auto pump or is it special? i did search forums some but didnt find exactly my questions thanks jim

Ayuh,... Pull the steerin' cable, 'n see how bad it is,...

They tend to corrode inside the aluminum tube at the P/S actuator...
If ya replace it, do it as a complete Kit, cable, 'n helm...

I don't think there's a kit for the actuator,...

'n the pump is just another Saginaw, but with the right bolt holes, in the right places...
Donno which/ what GM car might be the same...
