Attached is a picture of my steering rod (or whatever the name). I removed a Baystar hydraulic steering, but decided to use my friends current steering system (Teleflex mechanical). I am having trouble installing the shift rod using the current hardware. Am I missing something? The rod doesn't line up and there isn't any room to mount above. Do I need to change to a different rod?

Depending on the HP of your motor you may need hydraulic steering or at least dual cable.

But :focus: and your question. Each motor has a different height from the steering ram, you need a different height rod to match your motor

Hey, I appreciate the reply. Mercury 115hp, inline-4cyl. This is mounted on a small boat (16 ft.) which came from my 19' Wahoo. I was hoping not to change over to hydraulic steering in his boat. i have the baystar system, but would need to change out the helm. I didn't see any used one available... I'm trying to save him a few bucks.

Link rod mismatched to the engine and it should attach from the bottom. The rod should be parallel to the ram in the tilt tube.

After looking at others, I believe that I do have the wrong rod for my application. Thanks..
