Steering system question

I had the ?rack? type system and I?m planning to go with a rotary since so many people recommended it.

The cable length is 12 ft on the rack system.

Here?s my question. Obviously the rack system is a bit longer than the rotary with a total of 12 ft of cable length, so if I do go ahead with the rotary, wouldn?t I have to add another 1 ft in cable length to make up that distance? From the center of the wheel to the gunwale, because the rotary is short than the rack, which means that I really need at least a 13 ft cable now, am I correct? I?m thinking?even if I many have a little more in cable length?more is better than less.

What do you think? Should I go ahead with the rotary or should I just stick to the rack style and know exactly what I?m getting and save the frustration?

Re: Steering system question

Measure from the center of the steering wheel to the gunnal then back to the transom then to the center of the motor, all straight lines, add them up and that is what you order.

Using this syatem you can't order a cable that is too short.

Re: Steering system question

Remember there might have been a reason for using a rack system. Most likely lack of depth. Make sure a NFB or Big-T will before you commit...:)
