Steering on my Glastron 180cc with 90 HP Johnson 4 stroke likes to wander. Correct it and it will just go from left to right and will not track straight. Any suggestions?

Re: Steering

First thing I would do would be to do a visual/mechanical exam. Turn the wheel and watch the engine. Then Rock the wheel back and forth slightly. Any slop? If so, find and fix.

Other thing might be the hull. Not familiar with that Glastron. If the aft part of the hull is flat, you might get into some water conditions that could cause wandering.

Unusual problem.

Mark

Re: Steering

Thankyou for the suggestions, the steering seems to be loose at the wheel not back at the motor. The the boat only has about 20 hours on it. Any other suggestions? Can it be tightened at the wheel somehow?

Thanks again

Let me do you a favor. Get your email addy out of your display name.

Two questions:

1) What speed are you noticing this at? It could just be slow speed wander. If it's porpoising, you might need to adjust your trim.

2) Is it still under warranty? You said it only has 20 hours. Sounds pretty new and that could make it a warranty issue.

Re: Steering

if you are talking about slow speed, like no wake zones, get use to it. it is called deep V wander, almost all deep V boats do it. it's the nature of the beast. deep V's are designed to go fast and thats what the do best. balancing you load from port to starboard will help some.
