Hey Guys,

New Member here. Just purchased a 1987 Chris Craft Amerosport 284 28 foot. The boat has twin 305's and two batteries. I have not looked at how it's setup yet. However, I am looking at doing a nice stereo system, not so much for loudness but for clear and crisp audio. 4 Kicker Speakers and one kicker 10' sub. One amp that will power the four speakers at 50x4 as well as a 250 watt port on the same amp that will power the kicker sub.

What do you guys think I will need for this or is anyone filmiliar with how the twin 305s are connected to the two batteries.

Thanks guys!! This place looks like it's a great forum!

Re: Stereo/Battery Questions

You have one battery per engine which allows running on either engine alone -- totally independent. You need a separate, large, deep cycle battery for the stereo system. An ACR connected off one of the engines will keep it's starting battery and the deep cycle topped off. Keep it simple. No need to go crazy here.

Thanks Silvertip!

I am not extremely knowledgeable when it comes to electric. Do you have a recommendation of what type of deep cycle battery you would get? Also, I know that there is stuff that runs of the batteries currently such as a refrigerator, lights, bilge pumps etc. Should I rewire all of this to come of the Deep Cycle Marine Battery? or Should I leave everything alone and just run the stereo off this new battery?

Thanks,

Kyle

Also, Almost forgot... once the battery is in place- Should I use a distribution block to hook up the stereo to the new battery?

You asked what battery. If money is no object go with a sears marine AGM PM-1 Group 31 battery. They are made by odyssey and are awesome. The only thing that kept me from using them is the $279 price tag for each one.

The ACR will be good to have.

I would use a distro block. Run 1/0 awg wire from the battery to distro block with built in fuses. then go to 4 awg or 2 awg for powering the amps depending on what they need.

Kicker will not give you tremendous clarity as they are not SQ speakers, but in a boat they should do fine.

Route the remote turn on wire through a relay so a single line can power all the remote turn on lines and other things that turn on when the stereo is on.

Re: Stereo/Battery Questions

Sorry about the LONG wait on this thread but I finally went out and bought all the speaker equipment. I'll be posting pics as I do the install hopefully in a couple of weeks. Best part is the pricing, apparently the Best Buy near me is not carrying Marine speakers/subs/amps anymore so they clearanced everything below employee cost to get rid of it... I will UPLOAD the receipts if you need proof LOL I couldn't believe it!!! I'm psyched!

2 Pack Kicker 6000 Speakers OEM Price=$99.99 Discounted Price=$48.99
2 Pack Kicker 6000 Speakers OEM Price=$99.99 Discounted Price=$48.99
Alpine 10" Type R Marine Sub OEM Price=$299.99 Discounted Price= $24.00
Alpine 10" Type R Marine Sub OEM Price=$299.99 Discounted Price= $24.00
Alpine PDR-600 Marine Amp 600x1 OEM Price=$599.99 Discounted Price= $104.99
Kenwood KMR-700U Headunit $220 - No Discount unfortunately
Kenwood Remote Head Unit for the Driver Seat - $100.00 - No Discount...

There is not much left but I think there may be two more subs left that's it! I was tempted to buy them but I was not sure if I should LOL-
