Stereo wiring

I just purchased a boat and noticed that the stereo's memory wasn't working. The yellow/memory wire was wired in with the red wire to a wire that is controlled by the ignition key switch. So when the key is turned off the memory is wiped clean. After reading some posts on here I moved the yellow wire to an always hot location on the back side of my cigarette lighter outlet which is on a breaker. The memory is working fine now. Is this the correct place to run the yellow line? Thank you.

it's also the correct place to run the radio power wire. nothing but engine related items should be on the ignition switch. you should have a fuse block, which is the best place to run it.

If the red wire goes to the ign switch that means you have to turn the key on anytime to listen to the stereo. You don't want to that especially if anchored somewhere without the engine running and unlike most cars there is no accessory position on the switch.

im having the same problem i spliced the black 16awg. wire to my trolling motor black which goes to my acc battery and my yellow 16awg. wire to the red wire of my trolling motor wire and left the red lead coming from my stereo harness connecting to nothing and im not getting any power i left the red off because i wanted to listen to my radio while anchored and now my radio isnt powering up any sugggestions

connect the red and yellow wire from stereo, to red wire for trolling motor
