Stern drive rising up on its own

I have a Volvo Penta SX stern drive, have noticed over time that the drive does not react as it should at times, two days ago I tested the stern drive by moving it up and down, found that at times on the control handle I had to wiggle the trim switch ( button) a few times to get the drive to lower, don't know if it's the trim button or something else
Today as I was walking by my boat I heard a pump cut in, ( Boat is on land) I ran to check the engine compartment and noticed that the motor for the stern drive was cut in and hot, so I'm thinking it being ongoing for a little while, and right now the stern drive is in the up position, I left it in the down position two days ago. Just woundering what could cause this, and how to fix it?
1) Maybe a relay ?
2) Maybe a short in the control handle and trim switch ?
3)

I'm thinking its a short in the switch or wires leading to pump. The back and forth motion of the shift lever can cause wear in the wires and cause a short. Usually when a relay goes bad the pump won't work at all. I hope this helps.

Replace the thumb switch, then go boating

Thanks a bunch, when weather permits I will try and pull the switch apart,

Up date on my troubles, I went through the wiring and found this on the harness going to the motor. I could not find the exact fitting, so I wired it with bullet type connectors. Tried the motor, and could here the motor clicking at first, after trying a few times ( stern drive did not move) now I can't even here the clicking of the motor, I change the 10 Amp fuse and no change,
Anyone with any ides as to what it could be
Thanks in advance

Check the breaker behind the engine near the distributor. It has a red button.
