Re: do it yourselfer

just a question to see if i got this right. I believe I have a mercury 2 barrel carb . the numbers I have on it are 13899562 and the 2nd number is 8Z03. If I read this right I have a mercury 2 barrel carburetor that is from December 03, 1988. If I did this wrong can you elaborate on it.

Well so far to no avail I haven't been able to get the shaft out of the coupler. I have used a big slide hammer . but no good at getting it out of there.going to try to make a puller set up. any suggestions ?

Did you try pulling the engine forward off the shaft?

Re: sterndrive shaft stuck in engine

At this point in time you don't know if the shaft it stuck in the engine coupler or the gimbal bearing. Removing the side mounts and pulling the engine forward to let you know where it's stuck. If it's in the coupler you won't be able to pull the engine forward, in which case you'll need to get in there with a cutting torch and cut the shaft, then replace the coupler and shaft. If the engine comes out, then belt the end of the shaft and drive the gimbal bearing out with it. Then replace the gimbal bearing and (if you can't get the shaft out clean) a new shaft....

You guys are making me hungry with all these steak dinners floating around.

A fabricated puller with fine threads will pop that thing right out.
