sticky fuel lines

Hi, this is probably been asked and answered a few times , but I can't seem to find it in the archives. What is the best way to remove sticky fuel lines from the nipples that they fit onto. I'm talking about the fuel lines on a outboard motor underneath the cowling. For instance , the line running from the fuel pump to the carburetor. Thanks for the help

Re: sticky fuel lines

I use a diagonal wire cutter to cut the hose tie and then fit it against the end of the hose and pry it off (metal fittings only). If that doesn't work, slice the hose longitudinally with a razor knife on the fittings. Try to be careful not to go all the way thru and damage the fitting.

Zipties work rather well to clamp the new ones on . The best ones are available from a Johnnyrude or Merc dealer. They sell zipties specifically for use as hose clamps. As a general rule, plastic clamping on plastic fittings and metal hose clamps on metal fittings (plastic clamping on metal fittings is okay). Metal clamps distort plastic fittings.
