With alot of help from danond's Avatar Master Chief Petty Officer I was able to get mt motor out. But now I can not get my drive shaft out. I have tried every thing. I am under the understanding with the motor out I should be able to remove the housing that my drive shaft sits in that bolts to the fly wheel? I am waiting for my manual to come in still and my vacation will be over by then. Why can i not just pull this small housing off my drive shaft from inside my boat? HELP:confused:

Driveshaft splines can rust up in the coupler and u-joint bearing making it a bear to pull out, I havent run into that problem yet but I think you have to work the drive in and out little by little until you can get it moving enough to get some slide hammer action going.

Confused here...You pulled your motor out of the boat and the drive is still on? Did the shaft from the drive pull out of the coupler as you pulled the engine off?

Exactly how did you remove just the motor off the rear studs without removing the drive first?

I questioned it to but after thinking about for a while, figured he somehow reached in and unbolted the coupler from the flywheel, then you could move the engine around right?

I think he should have waited for the manual...
I hope its not a Seloc...

Why would you pull the motor without taking the drive off first..

You are absolutely correct. What happened was my drive would only space out about a inch. your probably not going to like this but here's what i did, I welded some pipe to make a brace around my seats in the front. Then since I was replacing the motor anyway and also knew i could probably space it out another inch if I put a cable come along on the harmonic balance. which would allow me to hook the come along up to the bracket I made. This allowed me to pull the motor straight out about two inches. I then hooked up a cherry picker to the engine and pumped it up and pushed it forward at the same time. And just like that the motor was out. I have been reviewing the manual online and still have no answers to whats going on. can I do the same with the engine coupler as i did with the engine? But of course only pulling it straight. I really appreciate all of your knowledge and any help you can give me thank you Brett.

You can pull an engine that way, It is absolutely the hard way and impossible in some boats. You can also damage a good coupler doing it that way. Since you're probably going to replace it anyway it doesn't matter much. Now you know!

Cheers,
