I have a 16 ft. Nitro 640Lx with a 90 HP Mercury. The top end performance of the boat is fine but staying on plane at lower speeds is almost impossible. Would a stabilizer help with this? I'm a little hesitant about drilling holes in my Mercury but if the results are positive I will. Can anyone give me some feedback on this?

Re: StingRay Stabilizer

Nitro, I used the stingray on a 115. It seems to help but most here will recommend trim tabs. I've studied a while and will go to trim/mobster/bennett tabs soon. The holes for the stingray mounting are not a problem, hardly noticable.
I wonder if anyone can advise on whether the trim tabs require drilling through boat hull? Ive read over and over trim tabs provide great planing , level ride and so on.

Do a search on "Smart Tabs, I for one have them on my Bass Boat and You couldnt get them away from me on a bet. I can plane at a little above 10 MPH, and there is no hole to get out of as far as a hole shot. I actually was able to use a larger prop so my top end went up a bit.

Yes, you have to drill holes, 14 to be exact. The first one hurts the worst but you quickly get over it when you experience the performance gains.

Oh, did I mention that I like them? :D :D :D
