Hello guys, i am new to boating and i have a few questions about storing an engine.

is is ok to leave an engine laying down on its side? its a Johnson 2 stroke 45 HP commercial.

Also what should i do to the engine before i store it for a period of time (6 months Max) and what should i do before is am ready to use it again.

Thanks Guys

Now I'm curious. Why would the power head need to be higher than the lower unit? I often have my motors sitting horizontal but didn't think I was doing anything wrong. Thanks, Rick.

it is always better to store them upright, if it is possible.

In case you don't get all the water out out of the lower unit and/or water pump. Then if the LU is higher then the powerhead the water can run back up the exhaust ports and into the cylinders and rust... This is expecially important when an engine has just been taken out of the water.
