Re: Storm Photos..

We're projecte to get up to 6" on Thursday as well all you southern sissies...bring it on!

bruceb58 you got me thinking, who wants to swap homes for a week, you can come live in the winter wonderland at my house for a week and I will go live in your home. I will get you a snowmobile to use while you're here in MN if you can get me a boat to use while I'm at your place.

I'm guessing the demand for spending a week at someone's house in a warm climate is much larger then the demand for people to want to stay in the chilly snowy north country.

My place is in the same condition as your place.

But ...I don't live there on a daily basis. I just visit this place occasionally.

Re: Storm Photos..

Not to get too philosophical, but those who have not lived in an area that gets this kind of weather is missing out on a whole lot of things.. Here is my list..

1) The dead silence you hear outside after a big snowfall. Its like somebody dumped a whole bunch of accoustical material on your front yard

2) The beauty of the snow on the trees and everything, this is compounded by the silence.

3) The crispness of the air

4) The crunch of the snow under your feet when you walk and the special way you learn to walk when it is ICY.

5) the cozyness of coming in from the cold, throwing a log on the fire and having soething warm to drink. I think for most raised in this climate, it takes us back to our childhood a little bit.

6) the true enjoyment of ramming your car into the berm at the end of the road, just to back up and do it again. People in other areas just don't get to do that stuff with their cars.

7) the sensation of driving on square wheels

8) when a big storm happens, it gives you an excuse for just lounging around all day and watching movies and then braggging like you just went on an adventure.

9) Looking froward to spring like it is a Christmas present.

10) Driving on what was a liquid body only a few months earlier.

Its kind of funny, one of the indian outtaskers that I work with came over from India in May a couple years back. As he went through the summer he was curious why everyone chose to take time off during the summer and were always very active in the summer. From where he comes from, one weekend is just like the next. He now understands.

I made that offer in another thread, mine for yours.

Southern sissies? huh?

Re: Storm Photos..

Roger I have to agree with your last post...we feel the same way in northern Michigan.

My best memories from my childhood other than boating involve sledding and cross-country skiing with family and friends every winter...and hot chocolate by the fire afterwards while the adults played cards.

I've lived in Maryland and have to mention that it's not really winter if your snow fort can't last a week before melting.:p

Re: Storm Photos..

We received 6" from the latest storm. Not to bad, could always have been worse. My son lives in northern Michigan in Traverse City, they received 24" of the white stuff.

Glad he got it and not us. I don't hate winter but as I have gotten older I like it less than I used to.

There is a beauty that comes through after a snowfall. Going outside as others have stated here it is so quiet. The only sound is the snow crunching underfoot. I like to head out to the woods and hike through freshly fallen snow making the first tracks. That is one thing that has carried over from my childhood.

I don't see myself moving from Michigan. We have 4 distince seasons here. I do like that.
