i wierd my radio up and to make it easy to understand, when i have the radio hooked up to the battery two things happen, one the radio get SUPER hott so hot water would evaporate off it, and the other is my battery conectors and wiers leading to the engine get hot also, causing the battery to die out. So yes i am asuming i have a short or wierd sometihng wrong ( which usually isent like me, usually) so when i dissconect the radio the battery or battery cables leading to the engin do NOT get hot so i do know for sure that it has something to do with the radio. so heres how i wierd it, i have my ignition switch power running from the battery up to the dash, then i ran a speret set of wiers up to the AMP i bought for the stereo i then connected one line of my radio (positive switch wire) to my ignition switch while i connected me memory wire from the radio to my positive wire which is currently giving the amp power. I then ran my negative line from the radio to the negative switch board pannel ( figured it would just complete the circut somewhere) i personally think it also may have something to do with my AMP, my friend said that the amp negative is usually ran to a ground on a car, he said it SHOULDNT be at the negative post on the battery, well tell me what u think! ill b waitin!

Re: strage radio probelm

from your description, it sounds like you wired it correctly. I would hook up the radio witout the amp first to try to isolate the problem. Some CD players get SUPER HOT. I had a kenwood that I thought was gonna melt my CDs. I'm not sure which wire to the engine you are talking about. Most high power amps use a floating ground which should NOT be connected to the ground of the electrical system. I'm referring to the Audio ground, not the power ground. You should always power an amplifier straight from the battery terminal with a heavy guage wire.
