Strange whining noise from the port side of my inboard mercruiser 5.7. PLEASE HELP!!

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. I can hear the whining from the port side of the engine itself. I cant localize it exactly, and it seems to be somewhat intermittent. It sounds almost like the trim motor keeps running after trim is stopped. Has anyone ever experienced this? Its a 1997 Sea Ray 210 BR. 5.7 Merc with Alpha 1 outdrive.

Ayuh,... Check the P/S fluid level, 'n belt tension...

That's 'bout the only thing on the portside that can whine...

Thanks for the advice. I didnt even think of the power stering pump. Ill check it out Bond-o.

Is your engine EFI?

Yes it is EFI.

You have an electric fuel pump and cooler in that black box behind the port motor mount.

When you first turn the key to the run position (Not start) you should hear the pump come on for 2 seconds and shut off. If you do, is that the sound you hear?

No its louder than that. You can hear it with the sun lounge closed.
