I have an oddball project. I am considering making a swing away cargo carrier for my camper van. I was thinking of using one of the fulton fold-aways for it. The load capacity for these is listed on the attached site. the thing is, I am unsure how the tongue weight and arm distance is measured for this scenario.
It appears for boats, the further from the ball, the less capacity you have. For a swing hitch, the fulton bracket would be in the center of the arm... but I don't know if the physics are the same.
A second issue is that I have a hanging weight instead of the boat's sagging weight.
All of the swinging carriers on the market have a rating of approximately 250 pounds. I would like to get to 350 lbs. Am I arguing with the laws of physics and expecting too much. It seems too coincidental that all the products max out at the same rating.
