So I’m changing the oil on my early 1970’s stinger 400 and I need some advices on the plugs washers. Right now the plugs have what I assume being nylon washers, is that the correct material? The oil was super milky in the mid section so I assume quite a bit of water got in, top and bottom were ok. Should I use copper washers, gasket material or nylon is the way to go?
Thanks

If your oil is milky in the upper, check the raw water pump assembly and the ball gear seals

I don't recall seeing nylon washers on any of my plugs. But, I don't know that you couldn't use a material like that.

What kind of compression are you getting?

Nylon washers are 100% adequate for gearcase drain / fill plugs.
Ayuh,,....... Merc uses a hard black/ greyish paper sorta gasket,.....

The ones I've got are Sierra, from Napa, 10, or 20 in a little bag,...
I keep a dozen or so, hanging on my oil pump tank, I use for fillin' the drives,....
Always handy when ya need one,....
