I was wondering if it is possible to replace a stringer in the back of this boat without removing livewells and all. I belive i could remove the stringer and it sand down and prep for fg. The back deck is very study and appears to be all made of fiberglass Any unforseen problems i might run into?

Is "this boat" a row boat, 60 trawler, maybe something longer/shorter? Kind of need to see what your looking at

is the only clue I could find. Not much to go on. Why do you think you have to replace the aft-portion of the stringer?

Haven't had much luck with an idea book myself. I select the paper clip in the upper right hand corner. This then opens to buttons in the bottom of the reply screen for uploading attachments (pics).

The other method is select the pic icon and then past the location. Maybe copy the pic in the idea book, then past it in the pic icon link when it comes up.

This is a roughneck I found

In most cases (I have ever seen) if the stringer is rotten, so is the transom, maybe just down lower.

Have you made any core samples?

I was thinkin that but wondering if i could replace the stringer without removing the back deck

that is like replacing main engine bearings thru the muffler. while you could probably do it, it is hundreds of times harder than simply removing everything AND PULLING THE CAP, replacing the stringers, transom and deck, then building your rear platform back.

It is possible, but what you need to find out, is how far the soft wood has penetrated. You can replace part of the transom, it doesn't always have to be the entire unit. Take a drill and find how far it has gotten, this way you will know and not just guess.

But yes you can just replace part of a stringer
