stringer shift cable

Can anyone tell me is the shift cable the same for a 1985 stringer 800 as the 1985 stringdr 400 . I have a 400 with a bad cable so i put a 800 i fond on the boat which has a 3.0 only to find it is a different ratio so after screwing around wth diferent pitch i figure i will do what i should have done in the first place put the 400 back in. I would like to use the cable from the 800 just not sure if they are the same.

Thanks howard. If they are the same is this something i can do or do i need to have a dealer do it with special tools. I am pretty good at wrenching on just about anything but am not sure on this cable i realy do not want to screw up a 600.00 cable or drive . Any help would be great.

my standard answer on that is read through the procedure in the factory manual and decide if you want to do it.

no special tools, but you definitely want the manual - not aftermarket manual.

Is there a factory manual on line? Kinda sounds like a dealer is going to get my money. Do you have any idea what it would roughly cost to pull the cable out of the 800 and put in the 400 if i pull the drive and just take the drives

no factory manual online that I'm aware of - ken cook pubs for a new one, ebay for used

I would charge 1.5 hours labour for the cable stuff, and then sell you an impeller kit and pressure and vacuum test of the upper and lower for another hour plus impeller parts

Thanks Howard for all the info. so if i follow you i should be looking at around 200.00 to 250.00 to swap cables and service correct
