Hello,

I have a strong gas odor in the bilge. My boat is a 01 Larson 190LXI with a Volvo stern drive. Any suggestions as to what would cause this leak?

Failed fuel hose, leaky carb bowl, fuel dispensed into a rod holder, tank vent hose disconnected, are a few things I can think of.

Ventilate it and check all the fuel system connections and hoses for now.

as funny as the ciggerette thing sounds let me tell ya a story.
I was working at crawfords exxon in cleburne TX back in the early 80's. new underground tanks had been installed about a year earlier. the city folk came by with their gas fume sniffer and proclaimed the new tanks were leaking.
called the installer and their crew brought out a better sniffer and determined it was natural gas not gasoline.
gas company sent out a crew and started digging up the drive and sidewlk hunting for the leak.
about 10 AM the hole was almost chest deep and maybe 20 ft long.
about that time we noticed the worker that was hunting the leak was seated on the sidewalk with his feet in the hole calmly smoking a ciggarette :) :)
my boss about had a cow. he ran towards the guy screaming and I headed down south whilhite :) .
but I figgued it was a heckuva fume detector he had betwixt his lips.
