I have an Evinrude '88 spl and I can't get the fill plug off the trim. I think the trim as some air in the line because it grumbles on occasion. Anyhow, it is a large flathead plug and with my biggest screwdriver it won't budge. Any suggestions?

clamp on vice-grig in screwdriver shaft and use it for leverage.also, give the screw head a good shot w/hammer.

they make screwdrivers with a square shank you can put a wrench on. just do not twist off the screw head.

I have had to deal with this problem a few times. First I use a drift and hammer, carefully, and give it a bit of a knock. Then I use a square shafted screwdriver and spanner (as suggested).

Usually if you line up the tools of choice (hammers-big, drifts and very big screwdivers and spanners), in view of the stubborn item, it will lay down without too much fuss. You just have to convince it that you're more serious than it is. :D

Chris..........

I just use the old hand impact driver and give it a rap. works every time and does not tear anything up.

Thanks for the help. It turns out I'm gonna have a big bill at the local Academy Sports(whick blows Wal-Mart out of the water when it comes to sporting goods). I need a couple of tires, trailer bearings for both boats, a new front wheel, jack thing, and the attaching come along(totally rusted). Not to mention out of 3 batts, only one was still good. But hey that's part of it.
