Hi Guys,
I've got a 2000 Volvo Penta SX-M outdrive with a gimabl bearing that I can't get out. I've tried a bearing puller and a slide hammer and can't seem to get it out. The motor had a serious overheat in the past that fried the motor and the bearing has not been greased the last few years so it seems pretty much melded to the pipe. I was able to get the center part and the bearing out with the puller but the outer ring won't budge. I have sprayed a bunch of WD-40 in there to soak.
Anyone have any tips or tricks? I am contemplating taking a saw-zall with a stubby metal bit and trying to make two cuts towards the bottom of the ring. My thought is if I take a little piece of it out, it may take some pressure off.
Whaddya guys think? Any ideas are GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks,
Rob
