Stuck in Gear?

I have a 1988 Force 85hp outboard. Before I replaced the control cables and control box, along with a new ignition switch, I could crank the motor. Just purchased the motor a couple of months ago. Control cables were no good that came with the motor, so I bought new cables and replaced the above items. NOW the ignition switch will not turn over the motor, switch has power. Motor WILL turn over if I jump the solenoid but it is in gear. I cannot get it out of gear, even when I remove the control cables from the motor. Will the motor being in gear prevent the switch from working? The prop used to turn freely and would start in neutral. How can I get the motor out of gear? Also, how can I put a new tilt cylinder sleeve back on? The old one, I just unwrapped from around the tilt cylinder. Thanks SY

Re: Stuck in Gear?

There is a neutral switch(called an "interlock switch") in the base of the engine cowling. Follow the yellow wire. It should show continuity across it. You can eliminate this as a possble problem by jumping it, and trying to staret the motor.
