What is the best way you guys have found to remove a stuck prop?

1975 Johnson 50, SS Prop-three blade.

DJ If you are close enough to water and a ramp..... I have seen stubborn props pop off when shifted into R while having the boat still anchored on the trailer..... but you usually have to retreive the prop.

Thanks Bob. I tried that-sort of. I Backed off the retaining nut as far back as I could and still get the cotter pin in. Ran it all day and HARD in reverse. NADDA-Nuttin.:mad:

That baby is really on there. The past owner ran it in salt and I don't think he EVER took it off.

I was wondering if anyone had any pic's of a tool they use to pry them off.

I'm just about to drag it over to a local dealer but would like to give it one more shot. At this point, I don't care if I wreck the prop.

The prop is in great shape but it's driving me nuts that I can't service it (splines). And IF it fails, collision or spun hub, I'm SOL.

I absolutely would not pry since the aluminum in the lower housing is not that strong. I would almost be tempted to apply some heat (not too much) to the shaft they use pb buster...... let it soak....... then use a rubber mallet or a hardwood block and thump that from the rear.

The other alternative is to use a 3 jar puller. (http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=8832) Maybe drill some holes in the exhaust flange so a puller can grab it. Since the holes are after the blades it will not have a performance effect.
