Stuck Steering

I have a mid-90's 21' Trophy, and for reasons I can't figure out, the steering is stuck in a hard turn to port. Just pulled the boat out for the Spring inspection the other day, ran the motor, cleaned it all up, and noticed that the motor (outboard Merc 125 HP) would not turn at all. Never heard of a cable freezing up or anything like that, and can't find any type of physical obstructin or lock. Any thoughts or past experiences that would give me a clue where to look?

Re: Stuck Steering

Most likely your steeting cable is getting corroded and needs to be replaced. There are tons of topics on here that you can search that should help you out

Re: Stuck Steering

Disconnect the cable from the motor and see if the motor turns freely and if the wheel turns freely. If either one is "frozen", there's your problem. If both turn freely when disconnected, I'd bet the problem is corrosion/junk built up in the steerer tube on the motor itself.
