Great point. Your right - plus good notes can point out that combo that didn't get tried and yet slips everything into place. Thanks for the good tip.

Off to the lake in the morning. I bumped the primary jets from .089 to .092 and upped the metering rods from .68 x .057 to .65 x .057. I left the 7 inch pink springs in. When I open the throttle a little the meter rods pop up for a little bit before vacuum builds back up and they drop right back down. Now to run it and check out plugs.

Jetting is looking good. I am very very close now. Started out, still had a little hesitation, so I bumped the jets again and left the meter rod alone. Worked like a charm. I still have some spark plug checking to make sure I don't have a lean range, but good response from top to bottom. Nice smooth day on the water, didn't even lose any parts.

Anyone duplicating this on a Edelbrock 1409 mounted to a 4.3L Vortec V6, don't bother with the 1485 kit. That thing is not even close. Might be good on a pre-Vortec, but is way too lean on a Vortec with a Performa intake. Here's where I ended up

.095 (part#1426) primary jets
.092 (part#1425) secondary jets
.065" x .057" (part number 1461) meter rods
7" pink step up springs

Also ran a new 4 blade Solas 21 inch Rubex prop and that was just about perfect. Nailed 45 MPH at around 4700 RPM. I wasn't playing around much with trim or anything, didn't want to spend much time at WOT with a new motor.

The calibration kit for the 4.3L is WAY too lean. Here's how I dialed in mine.
1) Edelbrock 1461 0.065 x 0.057 Metering Rods/Pink Springs
2) Edelbrock 1425 .0920 Jets
3) Edelbrock 1426 .0950 Jets
4) Edelbrock 1475 Accel pump nozzle kit. (used .043)

Someone should make this a sticky! LOL

Rick, just saw your post? great minds think alike! Don't forget the nozzle! :D

Yup, nearly identical results, ain't that amazing. Edelbrock is 10 years out of date with their 1485 kit. Total waste of money. I never even thought about the nozzle. Dang, now I gotta do more fooling with it.

Thanks buddy!

I know right? Why would they even bother selling the 1485 kit. Such a waste. What they SHOULD do is package THIS kit.
I got suckered into the 1485 as well when I did my build. It was great at cruise for gas consumption, but the curve was way too lean overall.
Once you get a higher capacity nozzle, you will have no lag whatsoever.

Makes me want to ***** at em. 1485 is a lazy ripoff. And I can see tuliped valves from running that lean.

Not sure I need the nozzle, more testing will tell. Wasn't thinking about that when I was jetting. From what I understand the 1409 is calibrated out of the box for a 5.0 Liter? That right? I didn't read it from Edelbrock, on a forum somewhere. If so, or even if for a 5.7L, should be plenty of pump in a 4.3. Crazy. Seems like the carb is a mismatched mess out of the box.
