I was having a lot of fun with a stupid eBay guy type thread over in Boat Topics. I ran into this one today looking for a Camera:

USA ONLY(48 Contagious states)!!

A lot of us buy and/or sell on eBay. What funny or stupid stuff have you seen?

Re: Stupid and Funny eBay stuff

Sometimes I really have to wonder how most of these people manage to turn on their computer and find ebay.

Here's a great investment, a whole kilo of copper!
http://cgi.ebay.com/Giant-1-Kilo-10...ryZ39484QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Unfortunately, a kilo of copper is actually worth about $7.50 at todays prices.

Here's a better deal:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Itunes-50-Gift-...0QQihZ004QQcategoryZ31411QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
That's right, a $50 iTunes gift card for the low low price of only $69.99. Or you could just go to itunes.com and buy them for face value with free shipping.

These are not isolated auctions....there are hundreds more just like them. :%

This is my all time favorite. An C & P from an actual description for a Land Rover:

This is going to be a all out auction for a Land Rover Discovery SE7 it is a good runner and it runs good . . . the reserve is on the low side and will be lowered then depending on the bids dropped.

You may have seen it as I have posted it before. Cracks me up every time . . .

According to one, on this board, anyone that does business on e-bay is an idiot.

Rule #1 - everybody on ebay is an idiot. Make your descriptions clear with no room for guessing, and keep them short so they will read the entire thing. Spell out your payment and shipping details very clearly. Pretend like you are selling to a 5 year old. Don't give them anything they might be able to argue about, because they will.

I am a complete idiot. I have done well, on both sides of a transaction. I happen to buy/sell from people that I believe I can trust, based on others experience.

I have had no bad experiences.

Once again, you need to look up the meaning of the word "hyberbole". Yes, the vast majority of people on ebay are complete and total morons. Look at the auctions I just linked above for proof. Those are not isolated cases.

DWJ, as a moderator you should know better than to spread your pointless whining to another thread. If you want to ***** about what I said at least keep it in one post. Better yet, send me an email. I'm sure QC doesn't want you crapping in his post.

ZM,

My moderating has nothing to do with my opinions, you too should know that. What, I'm not allowed to have an opinion?

You actually spread your ideas about ebay and the idiocy of those participants. I just thought it necessary to let everyone know how you felt, should your opinions change, from topic to topic.

I was just remaining consistant.

Signed,

A Complete Idiot.

The problem is, you're putting your opinions in the wrong place. If you have an opinion to share about what I said in the other thread post it there. Do you see how you have now started an arguement in another thread? That's called thread crapping, and it's not welcome on any forum. More importantly, you posted here for no other reason than to start a fight, and that's just mean spirited, and not what iboats is about.

If you want to have any further discussion on this, send me an email or a PM, because I'm not going to ruin QC's post. Or at the very least start your own post to crap in. I'll be happy to argue with you in the appropriate place.

Re: Stupid and Funny eBay stuff

Not that either one of you need any help . . . :p but here is an OB that was listed new today:

JOHNSON 10 HP OUTBOARD MOTOR

VERY GOOD CONDITION!!!

VERY GOOD COMPRESSION!!!
NEED TRANSMISSION OIL ONLY AND REDY TO RUN.
PICK UP ONLY NO SHIPING

This is the absolute total of the entire listing. No picture, no nuttin' other than what I pasted above. So I sent a question because I am truly interested (very few OBs are listed near L.A. ) : Pictures? Serial Number? Year? History?

And she/it responded back:

i'll put later everything i did'nt have chance yet

And this is yet another direct C & P . . . :%

It's in very good condition though! What more do you need to know? d:)

It's even worse on craigslist...where everybody gets free picture hosting. Rarely are there any pictures, and they must think they are paying for the ad by the word...

Nobody said you have to buy it.

Did you ever look in the newspaper classifieds?

E-bay does not have the corner on morons. They're everywhere.

Re: Stupid and Funny eBay stuff

There is a vehicle seller displaying 2 "ebay motors top seller awards.
He has a 1100+ rating.
He states in every listing that:
WE DO NOT OFFER SECOND CHANCE OFFERS AT ALL!!
States it several times.

Then, further down the listing, he says:
YOU MUST CONTACT US BY PHONE BY 6PM ON THE DAY FOLLOWING THE AUCTION TO LET US KNOW YOUR INTENTION TO FOLLOW THRU WITH THE PURCHASE, IF WE DO NOT HEAR FROM YOU BY THIS TIME WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO SELL THIS VEHICLE TO THE SECOND HIGH BIDDER

Honestly DJ, why do you have to be such a wet blanket all the time? This was supposed to be a lighthearted thread looking at stupid auctions. Is there a reason you have to be such a killjoy? You really are nothing but a downer. In every thread I've ever seen you post in. People come here to DC to chat and relax. You always put everyone in a bad mood.

Sorry for further crapping QC........

Re: Stupid and Funny eBay stuff

Zm,

I clicked the link you posted above for the copper. Click on the seller's past sales record and look at all the idiots that have purchased copper, brass and even lead at premium prices from this guy. This guy is a genius. Selling scrap like it was gold at half price.

They removed the link, but a couple of days ago a lady from NY was attempting to sell a mumified skeleton she has had for 30 years. She said she got it from a friend that worked at a university and the "mummy" had donated their body to research making it all legal. At the point it was removed, a buyer with an id of "satans child" had bid 500 dollars.

Re: Stupid and Funny eBay stuff

The things that make me laugh:...

"Too many things to list" WHAT???? Your trying to sell it! List it!

...and when someone is TYPING a description and towards the bottom you will see "And I almost forgot, it has a blablabal"...

ALMOST FORGOT??? Your TYPING, go back and add it!!!

It is as if the listing is a recording and they only get once chance.

And Zmoz, I undestand a Hyperbole and you are correct. Everyone (example of hyperbole) is an idito on ebay.

Just as the paperwork on my desk is stacked a mile high.
