Stupid Question (novice): Fuel...

Okay, so today I was on the phone talking to a co-worker who was helping me with some issues with my MS Office software, and we got on a discussion about boats. She used to work at the Marina and I asked her how the gas prices there compared to the ones here in town. She said they were very close, but the fuel at the marina has the oil additives needed for boat motors.

This confused me. I have a sterndrive motor, Mercruiser Alpha One, and I check the oil in it before every trip. I fuel it up at the local gas station with regular unleaded fuel. Is there something I'm doing wrong here?

She's confused too. They probably have one pump that has pre-mix for outboards, you don't want that!!!! I also have a hard time believing that the fuel is the same price on and off the water. My experience is add .75 gallon or more.

Uuumm, how old is your co-worker? And how long ago did she work at a Marina? If it was back in the stone ages when all enignes were two strokes, maybe she is right. But today, the gas at the marinas is the same as the gas at your local Shell station.
You are paying an increased price on the water for convenience. That and the fact that the marina usually pays more for their gas than the Shell, cause they don;t buy as much at one time or as often.

believe it or not on the great south bay by captree boat basin the shell guy is only 27 cents more than on land

the cost of upkeep on water based tanks alone makes it more than fair

tommays

I pay it, because my goal wherever I go is to get a slip. No complainin' here. That's the deal. If I don't like, I gotta do something else. :)

I've seen $4.85/gallon on the water here.
